MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome to the Eta Psi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Tufts University!

Founded by four pioneering women in 1870, Kappa Alpha Theta is the nation’s first Greek-letter fraternity for women. Our founders paved the way for future women to achieve academic success while exploring their full leadership potential in an organization that was unlike any other at the time. Because of this, we are constantly reminded to be as courageous, forward-thinking, and passionate as they were.

Following in their courageous footsteps, the Eta Psi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was established at Tufts University on November 2nd, 2013. As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary this year, we are reminded of the strong women who built our chapter from the ground up and made it what it is today. Our chapter continues to cultivate innovative leaders, and we recognize that “leaders” are not confined to those in leadership positions; our members are leaders all across campus as researchers, artists, writers, activists, and so much more. We all have our individual passions, yet we are all guided by the principles of social, intellectual, and moral growth, which bond us together as sisters and create a lifelong support system.

Through this support system, our chapter works together to raise awareness and funds for our national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which is a nonprofit that supports and trains volunteers to advocate for children in the foster care system. These volunteers get to know each child on a personal level and ensure that the they are as safe and loved as possible. Concert for CASA, our annual philanthropy event, brings the Tufts community together to watch groups sing, dance, perform comedy routines, and more, all in support of CASA. Through this event along with generous donations from family and friends, we raised over $7,500 for CASA last fall. We are so proud to support such an incredible organization that makes a drastic, tangible impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.

After long days of planning events like Concert for CASA, we are so lucky to have a fully-furnished home to come back to that is just a one-minute walk away from campus. Our house is a central place for members to hang out, study, and to always be surrounded by sisterly love after a hard day of school. Living in the house has truly been a highlight of my time at Tufts.

Keeping with the progressive nature of our founders, we strive to be a welcoming organization to everyone at Tufts regardless of background. We are committed to our diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) efforts, and our members participate in many DEI events and trainings during their time at Tufts. We also work with other on-campus groups to encourage conversation and learning among members. As part of our DEI efforts, we have a brand new scholarship fund that is actively helping to make Theta more financially equitable for all of our members.

It is such an honor to serve as President of the Eta Psi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta! When I started college, I had no intentions of joining a sorority, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have never found a more genuine, caring, and ambitious group of people anywhere else. My sisters push me to be the best person and leader I can be, and I do the same to them. I am so proud of the values we stand for as an organization and of our philanthropy and DEI work, and I am excited to see what the future holds for our chapter. We invite you to look around our website and social media to explore more of what we do and how you can be a part of it — we can’t wait to share the Theta community with you!

With Theta love and mine,
Naomi Ephraim
Eta Psi President
