RECRUITMENT TIMELINE
A Message from VP of Membership

Dear Potential New Members,
Welcome to the Eta Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta! My name is Christina Roberts and I have the incredible honor of serving as our Vice President of Membership. If you’re feeling excited, overwhelmed, and maybe even a little scared right now—please know that you’re not alone. During my own recruitment, I remember texting my mom with shaky hands after every house, craving a steady voice to help calm my nerves. What I never expected was that the warmth, reassurance, and unconditional love I’d always known at home would soon greet me here, within these very walls.
Growing up in Georgia, I believed sororities were simply part of the college checklist—that dimming your authenticity was practically a requirement if you wanted to “fit in.” But from the moment I walked through Theta’s doors, it felt as though I could finally exhale. I didn’t have to play a part or prove anything. Instead, I met a group of women who saw something in me—sometimes long before I could see it myself. Theta has taught me what it means to be unapologetically myself, surrounded by friends who celebrate my quirks, champion my bold ideas, and lend me confidence when mine wavers.
I’ve cried in their arms, laughed until my stomach hurt, and reached goals I once thought impossible. Whenever I stumbled, these women reminded me that I was worthy of standing up again—and, most importantly, that they believed I could. This unwavering faith in each other’s potential is what inspired me to run for Vice President of Membership and what led me here, sharing my heart with you. Watching my sisters lead with compassion and authenticity has been a profound gift in my life, and I’m so proud to be part of an organization that shows women what true leadership by example looks like.
If you’re searching for genuine love and support, that’s exactly what Theta is. This house isn’t just a place; it’s a family. We share laughter, tears, triumphs, and struggles—and we uplift one another because we believe wholeheartedly in every sister’s individuality and potential. It’s a rare and beautiful thing to be seen at your messiest and still be reminded how extraordinary you are. That, to me, is the heart of Kappa Alpha Theta: women brave enough to embrace who they are and compassionate enough to help others do the same.
I hope that as you navigate these recruitment days (and maybe text your mom for reassurance like I did), you find the warmth and acceptance you deserve. I hope you land in a place that celebrates who you are today and inspires you to be just bold enough and brave enough to let your truest self shine. For me, and for so many others, that place has been Theta—an organization that leads women by example and truly becomes a home for each of us.
Wherever your recruitment journey takes you, trust your instincts, soak in every moment, and know there is always someone cheering you on.
To my Theta sisters reading this, I may never find enough words to show how much I love and appreciate you. Thank you for standing by me, cheering me on, and reminding me that home isn’t just a place—it’s the people who hold you together.
Finally, to you, our Potential New Members, thank you for letting me share my story. I’m beyond grateful for the chance to get to know you and to show you what makes Eta Psi so special. I cannot wait to watch your journey unfold and, hopefully, welcome you into our sisterhood.
With endless love and gratitude,
Christina Roberts
Vice President of Membership

What does PNM mean?PNM stands for Potential New Members and refers to anyone going through the recruitment process.
-
Who is eligible to go through recruitment?Per Tufts Fraternity and Sorority Life guidelines, students are eligible for recruitment only if they have sophomore standing or higher. Additionally, you must be in a good academic standing: Arts & Science: 2.50 GPA Engineering: 2.30 GPA
-
What does the formal recruitment process look like?PNMs must first attend open houses at each sorority, which are typically held during the second week of school. Following this, PNMs will choose to continue the recruitment with either national (Kappa Alpha Theta and Chi Omega) or local (Thalia and Ivy) sororities. The process then includes two additional rounds. The first is the Sisterhood and Philanthropy round, where PNMs will learn about these aspects in each sorority. The second and final round is Preference round, where PNMs will have a deeper conversation with an active member and see if that sorority is the right fit for them. Note that invitations to Preference round are not guaranteed for all PNMs. After Preference round, bids will be distributed the next day on Bid Day, when PNMs run to their forever home.
-
What is COB and when does it take place?COB stands for continuous open bidding, which is a form of informal recruitment for Panhellenic (national) sororities. This process typically takes place after formal recruitment in the fall, as well as early in the spring semester.
-
What are the financial obligations of joining a sorority?Active members are responsible for paying membership dues, which typically range from $350 to $550 per semester depending on the sorority. The first semester is usually higher due to new member fees. Note that the dues are all-inclusive, meaning they cover everything related to your sorority experience. This includes chapter activities, social events, philanthropy initiatives, and other expenditures, so you won't need to pay extra for participation in these activities. Housing fees are managed separately through Tufts, so the dues remain the same for all active members. To help ease the financial commitment, Theta provides the option for member to enroll in monthly payment plans and receive financial aid if eligible.
